Parable of the Sower: Parables of Our Lord
by Humphreys, Henry Noel
From the Greek word parabole, “to compare,” parables are used to explain scripture through story, proverb or simile. These selections from the New Testament encourage modesty, tolerance, and generosity. By presenting these morals in allegorical form, they become more relevant and memorable, incite critical thinking, and reveal the relationship between everyday life and a life of virtuosity. Here, the birds and thorns represent the threat to spiritual cultivation.
