Toni Onley: Glacier
by Onley, Toni, 1928 - 2004. Commented by Claude Péloquin
Before Toni Onley (1928-2004) took exception to one of Canada's taxation laws, artists were considered to be "manufacturers" and their works were their "products." They were taxed accordingly. Onley launched a very public battle against this law, threatening to burn $1 million worth of his art on Vancouver's Wreck Beach. The matter was resolved to Onley's satisfaction before his drastic measures were enacted.
